Spending loads of cash on a watch isn't my style. A $500 Titanium Citizen Eco Drive is good enough for me.

Agreed. I own several Fossil watches as my daily watch, and recently acquired one of these for when I want to dress it up a bit. Big bling factor is not my style.

When I'm deep underwater, I use a dive computer that keeps me going but the last bit of equipment that keeps me honest is the Omega Seamaster Professional. No batteries to conk out at the worst moment. The damn thing is built like a tank, it's might as well be indestructible.

There's a reason why NASA astronauts are still using mechanical watches instead of quartz. US submarines are still using wind-up clocks as backup. And many a hard core divers (commercial, cave, wreck, etc.) still using automatic watches instead of quartz.

Well,I'll be sure to remember that on my next deep sea dive or my upcoming moon mission! Until then,I guess I'll just have to plod along with my crappy watches.....

Those watches in the first post aren't worth your money, btw...

Rolex only sends it's chronometer watches in for COSC certification. Breitling sends ALL of it's lines in for COSC certification since 2000.

What do you mean Rolex only send in "chronometers" for COSC certified? Rolex doesn't make quartz. As far as I know all Rolexes are COSC certified and that's why they are called "chronometers".

AFAIK there is a different between a watch that you refer to as a 'chronometer' and a watch that simply has an automatic movement.

Rolex makes non-chronometer watches that have automatic movements, and they do not need to get them certified, so they don't. Breitling certifies all their watches, chronometer or not.

Not all auto's are certified. It doesnt mean they arent acurate it just means they werent submitted for testing.

Not all Rolex's are certified.

Most high quality auto's fall within the certification parameters. Certified or not all autos will lose acuracy as they wear. They require service after approximately 5 years of use.

Tip: Always check the factory warranty on your watch. If it's two years or something like that, get yourself a free servicing. Like one month before mine expired, I just sent the watch in and said it was losing time. BAM. Free cleaning and service.

Later on, you'll be paying for that service.
