Yeah, I'm thinking the same way. when comonboys and I get married, we'll have one joint checking account that we will put money into to cover all the bills. Whatever money we have in our seperate accounts is ours to spend as we wish. Seems fair enough as long as all the bills are paid first and on time, and some money put away from both parties for home repair/vacations/projects etc.

naah, I just love teasing him about it. We have so many people ask me when it's going to happen and why we just don't get it over with since we have already been together almost 3 years. I don't want to spend the first year of my marriage though with him thousands of miles away. Doesn't sound like much fun. My best friend who's also married to a military guy said we should just skip the engagement and go straight being married, then when he get's back have a formal engagement and then get married again...... engagements are lame, it's basically a way for women to sucker a fancy piece of jewelry out of you for basically no reason because you still have to buy them a wedding ring later.

Engagement sets usually include the wedding ring. It just doesn't have the big diamond like the engagement ring. So she gets the same amount of jewelry.... she just carries around the valuable part long before the wedding happens..

you are still buying two rings, one of which serves no purpose other than her getting a fancy piece of jewelry worth way too much.

Seems fair. Now my bike isnt worth as much as her ring, but I get more enjoyment out of mine.

I told Cutty that my rings in total. That's both the engagement and wedding bands better not total over a grand. I found a set that I liked alot for about 700.... I think that's reasonable. Way less than the bike. So who knows.
