Awesome, as a machinist, I would love my own lathe. I've bid on a couple, but no luck.

I used a drill with a threaded rod in the chuck clamped to my work bench with a 2x4 as a tool support as a lathe yesterday. I would love my own lathe too

It was possibly somewhat dangerous

Thanks, I take pride in the parts I make ( both at work and at home ). I'll have to contact them after I get the lathe home and make sure it works correctly.

Is that Stock Saw (the one you call an automatic hacksaw) something you put together yourself?

The power hacksaw was a kit that was offered in the 50s/60s/70s. Somebody else built it.

It's either worn or they were a hack instead of a machine builder.

The lathe is in the basement and wired up.

No pics of loading, I forgot my camera

Here's the lathe at home on my former neighbors dual axle trailer


Put the rollers ( borrowed from work ) under the 4x4s ( lag bolted to the frame) and rolled it back to the ramps. Took the front rollers off and used my 3 ton floor jack to keep the 4x4s about a 1/4" off the ramps.

Neighbor John on the left and neighbor Vic on the right




Used the come a long to slowly lower the lathe down the ramp. When the back rollers reached the ramp, 1-1/2" pipe (four pieces) were used until the front reached the ground. Then the rollers went on the front and the pipes were used in the back.

Finally got it in place ( see it on the left side where I removed a wall to get it in? )




First cut, facing an exhaust spigot after welding to make sure it's flat. The lathe works great
