It's where Tennessee get's their "Volunteer State" quote from.

Personally, I like "Come and Take It" better...

I'm from PA and only moved here 5 1/2 years ago and Yes I had heard of the Alamo from history classes but it was skimmed over and could have been easily forgotten had I not moved here.

In all honesty if someone has mentioned it before I lived here I might have had to think a bit and all I could have told you was there was a famous battle of some kind. I never found history that interesting and didn't pay nearly as much attn as I probably should have in school.

My next guess was going to be, "Where Davie Crocket suplexed Paul Bunyan through a bingo hall table.."

I love Texas sometimes.

On February 23, 1836, the arrival of General Antonio López de Santa Anna's army outside San Antonio nearly caught them by surprise. Undaunted, the Texians and Tejanos prepared to defend the Alamo together. The defenders held out for 13 days against Santa Anna's army. William B. It is true that nearly all of the Texans under arms inside the fort were killed in the March 6, 1836, attack. However, nearly twenty women and children, who experienced the twelve days of siege leading to the final assault, were spared and allowed to return to their homes. The survivors also included Joe, the slave of William B. Travis. Nope, the origin started in the War of 1812 with Andrew Jackson, it became famous with the Alamo because of Davy Crockett on Disney.
