I have a running computer. I'm on it right now. I'll see if I can find a program to track its mileage.

I did in school. I don't like it. If I was running with someone then it would be ok but if I'm running solo I need my music. If I'm lifting in my garage or using my heavy bag I need music.
I even use music when doing hill sprints. I love music. Running not so much anymore. Running with music I can put up with to meet my goal. I don't really have a choice, I need to run. James

Also had this when I was running. Great product to have mixed in with the jams you have going while running. Gave up running due to a bum knee. Only eliptical for me now. |

When I run with music I get sloppy as fuck. I was getting shin splints and hurt knees fairly bad because I was just slamming the ground. My breathing would get weird sometimes. Once I stopped using music I was able to concentrate on proper running and my breathing. Then you get lost in your thoughts and I think that works better than music. But to each his own.

In school when I was in track and cross country I was able to run without music. Now I don't find it all that fun, if I didn't need to do it to get a job I don't think I would even do it. When hitting the heavy bag I can do that without music if I had to but the music fires me up and excites me. I find I work a bit harder and I hit the bag a lot harder. I even take short videos so I can see how I'm doing. I posted some of those on Facebook. One thing I was doing as motivation, was to put what I was doing for training that day on Facebook (there are some people from this site that have seen my posts like Mike and Kelly). By putting it out there it made it a bit harder to slack off because anyone on my friends list could see it. Plus anyone that is friends with someone that commented on it could see it. That was working great till my internet went down. I'm going to get back into doing that because it pushes me. I also made a picture folder and put in some pictures of different exercises. This also motivates me, and who knows, it might motivate someone else. I know a guy that I used to work with post that he is heading to the gym. When I see that I think, damn I need to get off my ass and train. After all that I will say that I agree with you 100% that you need to focus on form. If music messes with that then its best to go without it. Being motivated is great but it does nothing for you if your laid up with an injury because you were using bad form. James

James I'm similar to you in that I can't turn my mind off. It's something I'm working on in general.
I used to think it was a crazy idea (running without music) and then I tried it. I count 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 and just repeat. Since doing this I've been able to focus more on my breathing, run farther, faster, and most importantly, get lost in the pattern and rhythm of the count. It's the best tool I've ever found for turning my mind off. Give it a try! |

Even last winter when plowing my night was much easier with music. I could do it without but I didn't enjoy it as much. James

If I'm running to music I find myself trying to run to the beat of the music instead of at my own rhythm/beat.
Now when I lift, then I was some good hard or upbeat music to pump me up. |

I will admit I put some Miley Cyrus on and run from the pain. My half-mary pace is 3minutes when it's jaming
