It really wasnt so much of me doing anything special, he hit me real hard from bellow, I just happened to have a good grip on the hangline and no air in my BC, and looking at some dude under water with nothing in his mouth and I could see he was struggling.

That was also the 6th out of air situation I've been involved in, which is why I started to carry a small pony bottle with me, one of those small baywatch jobbers

I havn't heard an update on his situation, which could be good or bad, I havnt talked to anyone from last night either.

6th fucking issue? how many dives have you been on?
i have only had one minor one in all my dives.
me thinks you need to changes your dive buddies!

a spare - air is a great idea.

Not my buddies, just on the same boat. The people I dive with have stupid problems like knocking off face masks when they jump in or busting a heel strap and loosing a fin. One of my regular partners was having a problem climbing back on the boat so he took his weight pocket out to put on the platform so he could climb up, anyway he missed the platform.

The real problem is that I usually just hear about a night dive and I go there and other new divers have the issues, I just happen to be there to help them.

Ok let me rephrase what I said then.

That was the 6th out of air situation I had to either supply air for or medical attention after.

Unless the dude ascended faster than his air bubbles, chances are he won't get the bend, especially since he didn't stay down too long.

I love night dives. All the weird creatures come out at night.

That's a complex question, because there are many factors involved.

Navy tables were developed for divers in peak physical condition, and are therefore not as conservative as recreational tables.

Also, most Navy operations are done at a single depth, rather than the multi-depth profiles common in rec. diving.

Add to all that, that not all dive computers are running the same algorithm.

So, the short answer is: It depends.

If you ran straight Navy tables for multi-level dives, you would actually be spending more time on DECO stops, than you would be on a computer, because they weren't really designed for that to begin with, so in that sense, the Navy tables would be more conservative.

However, that extra time isn't really needed, because your computer is recalculating your profile around every 2 seconds.

I plan my dives with tables, and use the computer as back up.
