I've done some work with shelters and loved it, I just dont have enough time to spend as much as Id want. Tho one day I hope to open my own shelter, after I retire and have some land and cash to put into it.

Not I.
The skill and the respect earned would be something, but the fame isn't something I'd enjoy.
Also, sports careers come with a fairly short lifespan. You're on top of the world until age or injuries stack up on you... then you better have some decent investments and a plan for 'retirement'.

Forest Ranger. I actually made an attempt at it way too late in my college career. I don't have the math skills needed hence my English degree.
