I take these as seriously and give them as much thought as I've taken any online petition.

No doubt these are signed by the same people that made the "Forward this message and get $1 Zillion for each recipient, guaranteed by Bill Gates!" e-mail chains a smashing success.

That's a given.

Not too hard to find at least 25,000 crack pots in any of the 50 states.

I dunno, with careful manipulation of business taxes even the most resource barren state could make a solid go of it.

If you actually look at the petitions on the White House website, about half of the signatures for each state are from people who don't even live in that state.

The petition for New York to secede was created by some guy in North Dakota.

The best part is, some of my facebook friends are taking the petitions seriously.

While I'm interested in seeing if they get a formal response from the White House, this whole secession petition thing has had me somewhere between facepalm and just shaking my head and sighing.

As stated in both previous statements. The TROOPS need to GTFO of Texas, but the BASE and all of the equipment/weapons were purchased with money TEXANS paid, so it shall remain in Texas
Correction, Texas bases were paid for by ALL Americans, not just Texans.

And Texas taxpayers paid for ALL bases, not just the ones in Texas.

The only way your proposal would be fair, is if the ratio of military firepower & capabilities per person was identical in each state. But it isn't. Some states like Illinois or New York have a ton of people, but low military capabilities.

Under your proposal, states with aircraft carriers and nuclear weapons depots would get to keep them. Ain't gonna happen.

OK, Nebraska and Arizona can have the carriers, and Tennessee can have the destroyers

Sheesh...such a whiner!
