Can't say that I've ever had that issue. Do you have any other outputs and inputs on your DVD/TV? Maybe component video (red, green, blue) or HDMI? If so then I'd go with one of those, for better picture quality anyway.

This is what I wanted but it's a seriously basic DVD player that only has the component cables as outputs. It's quite a number of years old but will suit me just fine.

Well all that you need from the DVD is outputs, at any rate. As long as you have component inputs on the TV, you're golden. Just hook the component and L/R audio outputs from the DVD player to the appropriate inputs on the TV, and you should be good to go. You'll have TV via cable input straight to the TV and switch over to another 'source' to get DVD playback.

If all else fails, post pictures of the back of the DVD player and the TV.

If you're running Component output through an RCA cable(red/white/yellow) then that is your problem. You need to get a Component cable(red/green/blue).

What if there isn't another "yellow" input on the TV?

That makes sense. Composite and component aren't the same thing. Check the connection labels carefully.

Sorry. I got the name wrong. The outputs on the back of the DVD player are red/white/yellow.

The TV is more confusing (trying to find a picture online). It has the red/white for component 2 (cable is component 1). But there is no yellow.

Kell, composite video setup puts all of the video signal through a single 'yellow' cable. Component video breaks it up into red/green/blue. The separate red and white cables are for left and right sound, not video.
