Vehicle registrations are cheap here. They are spread out throughout the year, but I think I pay somewhere around $200-$250 for 2 pickups, a car and a pair of motorcycles. Inspections are all pretty cheap, too.
We also don't have a state income tax. Property taxes are higher than some places I've lived, but a lot lower than others. Overall, I think I pay less here in total taxes than anywhere I've ever lived.

My last renewal in FL was somewhere under $200 for the truck and the bike, of course that was for 2 years. Wait until you hear about places where a 2,000 square foot house costs less than a million dollars.

Exactly, in CA you get hit with like 9 or 9.5% sales tax when you buy the car, depending on the county, and then when you renew each year it's still based partly on the vehicle's value.
It's funny, each state tries to spin it a different way. At least Missouri is honest about it, they call it an annual assessment, because that's exactly what it is, a property tax, based on the value of the vehicle. |

And yet, all anyone talks about is who is going to pay more taxes to fund our astonishing about of debt. Nobody talks about cutting spending. Like, ever. This state is broken, and you'd think 500k residents leaving every year would be a wakeup call.

There is another factor too, all the taxes the state is taking in it would be kind of worth it if things were run well. From my experience they are not.
