But did you tell them? Or just apply? Its nothing for an employee to apply for jobs outside or sometimes even within the company, but typically like Ontwo said, you keep your mouth shut until you get a real offer. Then you lay it out there to see if they want to keep you.

It is probably a product of the work environment. It is an office of 5 people. So we know each other very well. However, I keep the professional boundaries. I don't hang out with any of them outside of work in any fashion. I let them know that I don't want Christmas presents from them, etc.

I guess she just felt a little too comfortable

I tell them. They find out anyway when you apply because if it is a lateral move they can try and block and if it's a promotion they can just watch you leave. My company has a reputation for people leaving and coming back to get higher paying positions.

We have a different setup as federal employees though, you really have to fuck up to get laid off. So we can tell them straight up we are considering leaving and not really have to worry about anything.

Most likely when we get done with WBN Unit 2.

They were going to start BLN 3 and 4 which would of been all new designs, but they are considering going after 1 and 2 that they almost had built and then tore the fucker down.

She definitely feels comfortable around you to ask you something like that. I've had similar experiences-however most of mine were applying for positions that offered promotions or closer to their home. I would give advise based on my professional experience.
The worst were the guys I spent $10-20K training and would leave. I used to get pissed at my COC because we wouldn't pay enough to keep our quality people.
