Its ok.

The tiles are nice for quick items like email and such. The browser that loads from the tiles screen is fucking useless. Its dumbed down so much for tablet useage that its not even worth using. I always use the full capability browser off the desktop now...

My computers at work use the ALT/TAB function, so using that to transition from screen to screen was like second nature. What does suck is that the "command bar" that slides out from the right side often slides out when you don't want it to, and then you can never get it out when you do want it. It pisses me off to no end.

Has anyone found a better way to kill programs or screens running in the background other than putting your mouse in the top left corner, waiting for the mini preview screen to pop up, and then right clicking it to close it???

It is currently about $25 cheaper than Windows 7 at Microcenter. That's why i went with it. And i heard everything was backwards compatible. Nope. 2 of my games in steam no longer run.

I'll continue using 7 on all of my devices, VMs, etc. except for the Surface I'll be getting and my touchscreen laptop at the office. Still contemplating switching to Win8 on my home desktop touch-screen.

Right now, my home network is all nicely setup with Windows 7 homegroup of 3 PC's and a laptop.
Windows 8 plugs right in to the existing homegroup and Skydrive integration is nice. Sharing libraries and cloud crap integration looks like it should be decent but I need to take care of an issue with adding remote shares into my libraries. Stupid index issue that I experienced once in win7 but cant remember what I did to deal with it.
Integration with facebook\google\microsoft crap is ok. Still need to play around with calendars but photos is nicely done. However, there it seems to be connecting to folders on other PC's that I did not explicitly allow (edit- looks like a skydrive thing). I don't like that even if it is in the confines of a local homegroup.

Metro UI just doesn't work well at all for non touch screen users.
Another note on touch screen and the big push for it...
Fuck off.
I have a nice 24 inch monitor. Why the hell would anyone think sitting at a desk and constantly reaching up (ergonomic issues right there) to leave big greasy finger prints on a touchscreen would be great idea?

Oh..I know...we are supposed to throw out all of our office furniture and replace them with "surfaces" so this way we can crane our heads down while swiping away on a table.

So far the maximum amount of windows I can have open is 2 in metro and its fairly limited. I couldn't use metro at work. I definitely do not like the way its parks programs in memory.

I've been doing a lot poking around but I have yet to seriously try and configure win8 appropriately for my use at home. I might buy a one or two licenses before the deal they have on it is up but I do not see myself upgrading any of my PC's just yet to this.

For now I'm sticking with eval copies in VMs.

Metro is the name for the new 'tiles' UI and API in Windows 8.

I don't understand the design decision to make the start menu take over the entire screen.

As has been said, it's all about tablet/touchscreen. Then it makes sense.

I've watched webinars from the Win 8 dev team and they just seem to hate the old start menu with a passion.
