Strict? Eight weeks of Boot Camp was a piece of cake compared to eight years of parochial school. Sister Rose in seventh grade was supposedly thrown out of the Marines for being too mean. I was a Baby-Boomer, so we had over 120 kids in fourth grade, before they split us up. One Nun, who was about four-feet-tall, kept us all in line.

My mom wanted me to go to a parochial high school run by Brothers. I heard they were weirder and meaner than Nuns. Luckily, my dad took my side and let me go to public high school. Except for all the religious crap, the education in parochial school was great, so tough it out.
I shouldn't have made the Conservative Christians comment as it has little to no bearing on my issues with the school. I was just making a commentary on the actual Texas Board of Education.

And just because you did something doesn't mean I want to, or that I want my son to.

My main point in all this is that children behave much better when their physical needs are met during the day. But instead of making them exercise, or instead of actually allowing them to socialize, they just use severe punishments and drugs to keep the kids in line.

Haven't seen an attractive teacher yet at this school....and I don't encourage ugly blowjobs.

I'm just shocked its become so punishing and harsh. Recess was the best time of day and the teachers enjoyed it as well. And lunch? As long as you werent throwing food, you could change seats, talk to your neighbor and have a good old time. I cant imagine a roomful of silent 5-6 year olds, let alone not being allowed to let loose outside.

Have the parents met and tried to resolve whats going on?

I've written so many letters and had so many talks with the principal and school I've lost count. They hate me so much up there now...and I've never so much as raised my voice or looked someone in the eye for too long.

As far as the other parents, they're part of the general population of the United States of America. And gen pop is far more concerned with other things. This is the new status quo and there's not a lot of point in fighting it. Exercise isn't coming back to school anytime soon.

Don't get me wrong, my boy eats like a grown man and is built like a lil' Hercules. But even with all the exercise we give him, and all that he gets from Jiu Jitsu...he still needs some stimulation during the day. As do ALL children that aren't wheelchair ridden.

Im an adult and if I dont get out of my office at least once during the day I become very tempted to bite someone, I cant imagine how little ones do it.

If thats how they treat the children, no wonder we hear all this crap about ADHD, etc. They are going stir freaking crazy!

Yes, that's exactly right. They take away the exercise and then when the kids start going stir crazy they recommend you put them on Methamphetamine so they can focus.

It sounds so insane, but its going on right now in schools nationwide.

My kiddo comes home with a red mark pretty much every other day. He's always in trouble for talking or moving around or whatever. While I'm very careful not to justify his actions to him, I usually don't allow his punishment to carry over to the home. But in essence the school is taking a good boy, making him super hyper, and then telling him he's a bad kid.

He placed second in his first Jiu Jitsu tournament last weekend, he told his friends and they called him a liar. So I let him take his medals to school. The teacher, while not banning him from having the medals, made it clear that a kid who's trained in the art of choking brings a tone of fear among the staff.

Sounds like the retarded school I worked at in Texas, only they only got recess on days they did not get Gym class.

And then they wondered why the kids had behavior problems.. shesh..

Here the kids get 15 min in the morning at 10:15 and then at lunch, which they eat in their class for 20 minutes, ( allowed to talk btw) they go outside for another 30 to play and run around and scream and generally be a kid.

The whole idea of no recess, or little recess has to do with the idea of using those extra 15 minutes to teach. ( to kids who are antsy and not paying attention anyhow..)
