Am I the only one who still likes pop-up headlights?

Well of course. European cars are no more reliable than American, in fact I'd say overall they are worse. But if you compare Japanese to American, well.......The Japanese usually insist on higher specs from their parts suppliers.

i have an 87 daytona they have never failed. Not even once. My 89 used to have the manual crank drift to one side and stop the lights but that was easily fixed

I was super lucky in that I NEVER had problems with the pop ups on my Celica (it was an '86 - had it from about 1991 to 1995)... but I know I was one of the few lucky ones.

I have popups on my C4. I love them. I still get a thrill when I turn on the headlights.

I've always loved hidden headlights on a car.

Yep I love the late 60's Camaro's with the hidden headlights.

I've owned 4 Vettes...1972...1978...1995 and my current 2002 and so far I've never had an issue with pop-ups.


A Mitsubishi Starion Turbo I owned had an issue with one of them.

The lights and motors don't actually fail, it's the cheap plastic gear inside the motors. The plastic isn't strong enough for the job, and the gears inevitably strip. The headlights usually still work, but make a horrible noise when being raised or lowered.

Like I said, there is a guy who makes brass gears for them. I'll probably give that a shot when I get back to the States. With that done, they should be problem-free forever.

Unless it is a C3 corvette, then it is the vaccuum tubes that usually cause the problem.

Yes I think you are the only one that likes them.

I had them on my Firebird but I wouldn't say I loved them. Didn't hate them (other then when detailing the car. You detail the car then drive that night and thats when you remember that you didn't wash the lights and they are covered in bugs. I like it a bit when you first turn them on because they pop up and when the drop down. Other then that nothing.

What I hate is the blink you get when one doesn't work.
