Correct me if I'm wrong Tom..
Right. Not a death sentence. But, if we already get vaccinations every year for the "flu" - I will have my daughters get one that is running rampant around their schools.

The flu sucks - "normal" or "swine" or H1N1. It fucking sucks. And, the only thing worse than having it yourself is watching your child go through it. As a parent, why would I not do what I can to prevent them from going through the worst of it?

Tmall is right, however the flu vaccine is different every year. they choose 3 different strains that they think will be prevelant and thats what they make the vaccine from.

Most cases of "swine flu" we saw were actualy rather mild.

H1N1 is usually milder than the "regular" flu. NC recently received it's first batches of the H1N1 vaccine.

H1N1 vaccine is mandatory for us here in Iraq. I know we had one guy from my unit quarantined as soon as we got to Kuwait because he was confirmed to have it, so I'll take my chances with the vaccine.

it hasn't mutated - it's still the flu.
I've never had the flu
I've never had a flu shot
Coincidence? maybe....but there's no shot out there that's voluntary that I will volunteer for. Fuck that shit. *shudder*

Nurses on the step down unit I used to work on received one young lady from ICU. They had to wean her off a vent. 25 years old, almost died, on full support with a trach - post H1N1. She was healthy prior to this. They theorize b/c she was taking her birth control around the clock, she was like a pregnant woman (no periods) and was more susceptible to the "swine"flu. (higher risk population).

I know some people aren't concerned about this epidemic, but when people with far greater medical/historical knowledge are going to all this world wide effort..... they might want to consider a vaccination.

Vaccinations and immunizations are why we get to enjoy a fairly healthy life. For those that don't get them, you are depending on the herd to keep you healthy. This is why things like whooping cough are coming back. It's like doing "group work" and someone doesn't pull their weight. When people don't get vaccinations or immunizations, others suffer.

Anyway.. off my soap box. I don't want to be attached to a ventilator. I'll be doing my research and sticking out my arm.

Another point to make, H1N1 is not new, it's been around forever and there was a similiar outbreak back in the early 70's..
