Dog all the way. Nothing can take it's place. Caged pets are cute and all but after a while you may as well have gotten some fish instead. Don't get me wrong, ferrets can be fun but they also can be lost. Get a dog and either get off your butt and walk it or get off your butt and put up a fence (or a radio collar).

Oops, I walked my dog in the middle of my post so I didn't see this... you could just get a kennel...either indoor or outdoor style... okay, no dog for you then.

Yeah, we will have to change our ways for a baby, but that's a little different than a pet.

Salt water aquarium. You don't have to deal with fur all over the place or the possibility to having an allergy to the animal. Low maintenance really compared to cats and dogs, you dont have to walk them and you can leave for a few days and notr have to hire a pet sitter or take them to a kennel. If they get sick you can let them die and just buy more. No expensive vet bills.. and the biggest reason. It is very relaxing to watch the fish swim around.
