FUCK YEAH

Growing up (as an Air Force brat), A10s where my favorite plane. I think you can blow everything off except the cockpit and that thing would still land. Infact I think the cost of pants would be too high because everytime I pulled the trigger and let go about 2 cluster bombs with one fat daddy napalm bomb to follow I'd cream my pants.

One day we'll learn how much money we are wasting with stealth fighters and guided missiles. Think how fast our wars would be over if someone knew that warring with us would bring 1000 A10s escorting 5,000 B52s with dumb bombs and few hundred AC130 guns ships to do some clean up before leveling the place with about 100 C5s with daisy cutters in the back. And for good fun, park some battleships off the coast of some other coastal shit county and give them a light show for a few days.

The only weapon our ground troops will need is a broom.

They are looking to replace them because...uh... the company that built them doesn't exist anymore, the machinery to build them has been recycled into Stovetops and they think that maybe one day we may have to fight someone with an actual functioning air force.

I would like to see them keep them for as long as possible though (which is the plan...they should be around for another 15 years). They just rolled out a major upgrade to em and they hold up ok with all the hours they've logged on the airframe.

You will always need an A10 style workhorse in the lineup. The Douglas Skyraider and the F4U Corsair pioneered our support role, like the Stuka for the Reich and the Illyushin for the Russkies. There will be a replacement. I dont think the F35 has the durability.

Still with modern jet dogfighting being what it is I would rather be on the deck in a support role. That is if I couldnt go back to 1917 and fly an Albatross or SPAD. Those guys were tough. Sure I know about the life span but that was pure life.

I watched a special a few years back were this group of warthogs went on a night raid and one guy's wing was off and holes all in his hog, but he still made it back.

The pic of the F-15 with no wing is crazy.

Also watched a special on these two Longbows. You was leaking coolant, so they landed, they drained some coolant from the good longbow into the damaged one and made it back. I believe they said their engines can run for 45 minutes without coolant before boom boom.

F35 as an A10 replacement is a joke.
However a lot can happen between now and 2028.
UAVs are on everyone's favorite toy list.

Parts availability? I'm guessing whoever buys these better purchase a CAD/CAM setup to make their own parts and hire a mechanic who knows what they are doing. lol

I just got thru watching the 1966 'Blue Max' with George Peppard. I hear you can construct your own 3/4 scale Fokker on a MUCH smaller budget. Would license as an experimental and skip all the big FAA headaches...
