D&D, I don't even know what it's like so I would definitely choose it over shoveling shit. We had video games growing up, so I never knew anyone who played it. I just know you use crazy ass sided dice to play it.

If I hadn't had that emotional outlet, there might well have been some bodies buried out back.

What's wrong with getting around a table with a couple of friends, some snacks, a good brew, and giving the old imagination a workout?

Of course if you are lacking in the prerequisite imagination, luck, and intelligence I suppose shit shoveling could be a valid alternate activity

I answered honestly... none of the responses seemed very extreme.

That said, I have no idea what the 2nd Edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons definition of Chaotic Evil is... or how it relates to the 1st edition, or non-advanced D&D, or the 14th Edition Super Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Unobtainium Character Multi-Pack with complimentary pocket protector... Perhaps this thingy relates to the cartoon from the 80's version.

They're now up to the 4th Edition, which has little in common with previous editions.

Yeah, very simplified. The guys from penny arcade have a series of podcasts playing fourth edition with the guys from wizards dm'ing. Pretty amusing

I stopped playing "pretend" games at about 8.

Nothing against those who like it (and perhaps have the requisite amount of imagination), it's just not for me.

I am equally ambivalent about ball sports.

The dog gene must be recessive in me, as I have no desire to chase a ball, nor watch anyone else fucking do it on TV, for that matter.

I don't really drink either, so I guess I'd really not be much fun at parties otherwise but for the fact that I play guitar, and usually have something rolled.

Well, I don't give a damn about ball sports, and I can't get into most board games or card/domino playing either. (I'm easily distracted by bright shiny objects)
But a little tabletop RPG always engaged me.
