Guys. I'm taking close ups of oil pumps and shit. Not natures vagina.
Like I said. My kodak v1253 took great close up just cm away. My more expensive sony has to be 8" or more to focus in macro. I don't need to spend that much to get a good macro. |

Its probably out of the price range you are looking to spend, but Nikon has the D3100 thats looking pretty bad ass.
I am very tempted to upgrade from my old Canon Rebel to it, its got menus to make everything super simple to get the best possible pics. Not that Im unhappy with the Canon, but Im more of an instinct kinda photographer, I see the great shot, I take it as is, and other than cropping occasionally, I rarely edit. All the buttons and settings get on my nerves trying to figure all that crap out so the simpler the better for me. |

BTW I disagree to an extent. A SLR camera brings with it much more than just f-stop and isp options. The larger lens gathers more ligh, more light equals better pics day or night. Optical zoom is always better than digital. Lastly, SLRs almost always have faster processors which equals better/faster focus, quicker load times, better, more comprehensive automatic features. Oh did I mention the ability to change lenses for more versatility? Like I said before, for casual pics, use your phone. If the picture really counts break out the luggage. |

Anything more than that and the SLR comes out. I don't usually want to carry more than my phone anyway.

That is what I'm trying to say... If I'm BRINGING A CAMERA, carrying an extra piece of equipment to whatever event I want to get a pic of...bring the DSLR. Why bring a p&s that is barely better than my phone?
