Wow, you sure take offense easily, Marko. I never said I was the "fastest rider on two wheels", you don't have to be to outrun a cop on a liter class sport bike... here's where the sanctimonious bullshit comes into play. The real problem is that I'm willing to admit to faults and most of you aren't. How many times have you driven home over .08% BAC? Plenty considering that it only takes a couple drinks to hit that mark... Who's more dangerous to other drivers?

The other thing is me and a couple other members were having some fun with this topic, throwing some jokes, trading some insults and here YOU come...what were we having too much fun with this oh so serious subject?

When I was younger I thought a little different and may 'tempt fate' a little more but these days....knowing how much worse it's going to be IF I run and get caught...screw it...I'm most likely pulling over.
Exactly! My mindset went to prevention a long time ago! I'm just willing to admit to not being perfect.

You should be able to go as fast as you can without being a danger to other motorists. So, if you have to weave in and out of traffic in order to achieve your desired speed that is too fast. Common sense.

As an example, I was pulled over doing 140mph on my ZRX a couple of years ago. Never knew the cop was behind me until I began braking. I was on a 3 lane access road next to a deserted highway. In fact, I'm pretty sure I woke that cop up from a nap.

He used his common sense to make a situational assessment. He determined that since I was not a danger to anyone and was obviously not a local squid it would be prudent to give me a stern warning and let me go. If more cops were that competent I would have no problem with speeding laws.

However, what you see most commonly is speed traps being set up on very safe stretches of highway and cops writing dozens of tickets for people doing 10-15mph over who were IN THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. Now you have numerous cars pulling over to the shoulder and creating a hazard so the city can generate revenue. The closest I ever came to being killed on a motorcycle was actually the direct RESULT of HIPO working a speed trap on I-35 during morning rush hour.

funny how often we hear whining about 'tard drivers at the current speed limits we have, so lets make the speeds higher, it'll be safer.......yeah thats the ticket......
FWIW the main problem is closing speeds or capture ratio, the difference in speed. If the cages were going faster AND obeyed lane position laws-as they do in Germany, btw, our freeways would be moderately safer. On the whole and IMHO, speed limits on the open freeway are in place for one reason...revenue, plain and simple.

And I disagree with police resources being used to enforce a tax under the guise of public safety.
