I have a suspended NY liscense, but I am also driving on a current NJ liscense. So it is quite possible that she is driving legally.

What happened was in my case I was a liscensed NY resident then movedto NJ in 2000. 2 weeks later I was carjacked and the car was involved in an accident but the person that sued me tried to serve me papers based on the NY address, the papers were served to my old landlord who never gave them to me so i never showed in court. I changed my liscence over in Nov of 2000 and have had it ever since, however if you look up my name in the NY police database it says my liscense has been suspended since 2001. I found this out in early 2008 when a cop buddy looked me up and told me about it. As far as anyone has been able to tell me is that I need to establish a physical address in NY pay almost 2k in surcharge fees and retake my driving test. I talked to a lawyer who said that this will eventually come back to haunt me except for the fact that when my lic was suspended in NY I had already been living and licsensed in NJ for about a year, and I have my abstract to prove it.

far as I know the only state out there that DOESNT require insurance is NH, bu that may have changed recently too. idk.

No, that's why you HAVE to carry uninsured motorist in MI.

we require insurance last I checked, but all we require is a very minimalist liability coverage really. doesnt cover personal injury claims I dont think, its just paying out if you hit someone else and are cited as at fault.

down here its something like 2 out of every 5 dont have insurance, probably more like 3 of 5 lately, but I wouldnt know for sure. its a scary number so uninsured/underinsured coverage is a wise addition on anyones policy.

in FL you probably can get insurance with a suspended license, BUT I know few reputable insurance companies will write you a policy. the cheapo crap companies prbably will though.

I cant find where it states its a felony, I may be mistaken, but penalties are very severe, FL doesnt mess around with that kinda thing. Unfortunately it seems they never catch the offenders. Here's a link or Floridas rules...

A state and only revoke your right to drive in their state. they cannot take another state issued licensed but they can revoke your right to drive in their state. So like in Derf's case, he is completely legal to drive in every state Except NY. And he will have no problems until his NJ license renews. They will then see it suspended in NY and reciprocity comes into play and they will suspend it in NJ too.

You're fine until a license renewal comes up though....

I doubt that is this ladies problem though.....the problem with suspending licenses is they do it for ridiculous amounts of time so people take the chance and drive anyway. I mean how are you supposed to get to work, etc for a year or 2 with no license...yes you CAN do it but most people won't inconvenience themselves. They will take the fine and get caught.
