Must research... $3500 sounds pretty good...
2008 Aprilia RXV 450 - 359 miles - $3500 Looks like it has 6,000-mile valve adjustment intervals. Same as the KLR, but probably much more difficult to perform. |

Yup.
I've got a friend who has one on its second engine . . . with less than 5,000 miles on it. The BMW 650x on the other hand is a decent bike. |

One of these might work, too, though I'd rather have the Challenge:
2009 BMW G 650 xcountry - $5400 (Duncan,OK) I think that is the most out of proportion can-to-bike ratio I've ever seen, though. Low front fender might not fare well, either. |

Never really spent any time with a xcountry, so I couldn't tell you much about them. I have ridden with a guy on a challenge a few times though, and I really like that bike. We did have to stop and fix it a couple times on the trail, but I did like it. btw - never had to fix the wrr on the trail
There's the challenge right behind my bike . . . And here he is fixing it . . . |

I forget what he broke. Something electrical iirc. It was a simple 2 minute fix. He rides the crap out of that bike, too. I wouldn't be concerned.
The crazy Kawasaki is a ratted out KLR and it belongs to a friend of mine here in Tulsa. There was a KTM 450 exc on the ride with us who turned back halfway through the day because it was too rough. The guy on the KLR rode with us the whole day |

Shame about the Aprilia. I've found several now with very low miles at very low prices. I suppose it has developed a reputation...
The G650X may be more appropriate than the Yamaha for the type of riding I'll be doing; probably better on the road and capable of more in the dirt than I am. Costs a lot more, though. I'll take whichever of two I can find for the best [relative] price. |
