Theres more of a neutrality with Joker. He often doesnt even even know why he does what he does. Definitely chaotic, but probably more neutral then evil.

Im not ever sure if you can classify criminally insane in any of the standard alignment archetypes.

I would class those three as Lawful Evil. There power comes from an organization or government.

Or neutral evil. Ce is end of the scale but ne is the truely dangerous one.

Government, or total power?

They may have used politics to further their own ends, but there was nothing lawful about the tactics used to pursue their goals.

Were dancing a fine line anyway of personal definitions though. The only person who could tell us for sure is THE dm, and Gary has been dead for some time now.

Nothing lawful? They were the law. They enforced the law. It was twisted, by our standards, but it was still the rules by which their nations lived. They used the system. They didn't ignore it, nor circumvent it. Hitler was elected. Mussolini was elected. Kim Jong-il is a little dicey here.

I dont call faschist rule through genocide as Lawful. Even if he said, as furor, that it was fine.

If theses acts were lawful because they were the law, then why were Nazi's put up on trial for crimes committed inside of germany? It was all good in the hood, wasnt it?

I think that you're mistaking law for Law. In D&D terms, Law is a set of moral guidelines that people of a given group adhere to. The law of a Neutral or Lawful Neutral country isn't going to be the same as that of a Lawful Evil society.

They worked on THEIR law... what THEY felt were the rules to live by, not ours... and so they self governed themselves to a set of guidelines.

for example if I say all Jews are to be killed and Arian's to be praised... that's a moral law... fucked up one... but a law none the less...

characters like the Joker just kill randomly... no real guideline even a self enforced one... the true definition of Chaotic...

Yeah Hitler was definitely Lawful Evil.

Joker is several different versions depending on the writer's depiction of him. In Dark Knight which has become everyone's go to Joker nowadays it seems, he is definitely Chaotic Evil because that's the way they wanted him portrayed. See Alfred's description of him wanting to watch the world burn. He has been written as neutral evil/chaotic neutral as well. I don't think I have ever seen him as Lawful Evil though.

You can't really pin some characters as one type because of how many versions of them there are when they have had several writers behind them writing different types of baddy.
