Question Bad gas?

Is there such thing as bad gas?
I always put premium Chevron gas in my bike.

Yesterday I had 85 miles on my bike, I normally fill around 100. I met up with some friends. I rode on the highway to the designated spot - no problem.

No problems starting my bike. We pull out to ride and every time I slow to turn or stop, my bike dies. No lights coming on and it starts back up every time no problem.

One of the gals said she had the same problem and it was bad gas.

We went to the gas station and I filled up the tank, no problems after that.

Just wondering what happened? Can I avoid it from happening again? Do I need to have the bike checked? I just had 4k service done a few months ago.

Put a little Seafoam or Sta-Bil in if it happens again and it should clear up.

yeah, bad gas, or contaminated fuel is a possiblity. its not uncommon either, as I've heard and seen it happen once in awhile. just run some fuel system cleaner in the bike on your next fillup and if it keeps acting up, then take it for service.

on the subject of gas, I"ve had a LOT of it last night, I'm surprised I didnt kill one of my customers.

You might have got some from the bottom of the tank at the gas station. Also this time of year some states require the use of more additives. The additives don't work as well.

Plus most gas now has upto 10% ethanol and ethanol mixes with water so it soaks it up like a spong from the air.

Most bikes these days have a easy to adjust idle knob on the side of the bike some where you should check into that. I adjust my idle almost everytime I ride as the weather changes during the day. I also turn it up pretty high during trackdays to reduce wheel hop. (2500-3000)

The gas station I normally go to was out of premium gas the other day (all the pumps). So I do wonder if the last time I filled the bike, it was the bottom of their storage tank.

I've been riding almost 10 years and never has this type of issue before. I just like to why the how/why something happened.

Thanks all for the feedback!

I got some in my blast when I was trying to sell it in May. Fuckin sucked cuz I lost a sale on it, but sold it 3 weeks later for 200 more and to a better person (father and son who wanted to learn together). Maybe it was a good thing afterall.

There's a good chance it was at the bottom of the storage tank when you filled up Michelle and you probably got some water in it. It could have had some trash in it too so if it keeps on doing it, check the fuel filter on the bike. Hope fully it was just a little water and it'll be fine now.
