Extreme Makeover: Trailer Edition

I got an enclosed trailer this past spring. One of the primary reasons was because I have 3 kids, a wife, a dog, and for big family vacations my mom usually goes along too. And when the “turd row” (I had an arab salesman trying to go over the features of this SUV when I bought it..and he could never say THIRD) is up the room between the back of the seat and the gate is enough to squeeze a few umbrellas in, and that’s about it….so we needed something for the luggage, and other CRAP you take on family vacations.

I also wanted one for track days, since I usually stay overnight near the tracks and I always feel uneasy leaving my bike and gear on my open trailer. Since my tow rig is only an exploder, I didn't want something HUGE either, so I found this 5x8 for sale up the road for next to nothing.

It was a contractor trailer with a roof rack...so it wasn't exactly perfect inside....and it had no mounting points for anything. So my first track day, the trailer had everything kind of "thrown" in there

Of course, after this pic I threw in the EZ-up, chairs, tool boxes, carpet.....and the kitchen sink

So I decided to spruce up the trailer a bit. I painted the walls, put flooring in, and put mounts for everything I needed.

Here is the bike and all the required equipment loaded (less tool bags)

On the right side I wanted my EZ-up's to stand to be out of the way, as well as be the first thing I access, and the carpet too, but I found that the carpet was too thick to mount vertical and still get the bike IN...so I laid it on it's side

On the left I secured the ramp, and hung hooks for my leathers

Everything is neat and has its place now.....and the trailer is small enough NOT to mistake for a motorcycle trailer and be targeted by bike thieves

Well done.

The only thing I would have done different is to install recessed tie downs in the rear.

I get lazier as the day goes on and nothing sours the loading-up process like tripping over a big ol' eye bolt when you are tired.

Yeah I hate that too....these are bed bolts.....just spin the eye bolt out and this is whats left

I keep the front eye bolts in most of the time.....and just screw in the back after the bike goes in. Just didn't take them out for the picture, as I just removed the bike. They're flush so there's no tripping
