its a rare tennessee streamside salamander, we caught four today. Its the first day of their breeding season and a buddy of mone is doing his masters research on the affects of urbanization on known populations throughout middle tn.

How is their population affected by people taking them out of their natural environment during breeding season?

Cool lookin little critter there. I used to have newts and salamanders as pets when I was a kid.

I think most amphibians are affected by environmental problems first, thats why they had all the problems with those frogs up in minnesota

Those are the bigger salamanders that keep their gills, if I am not mistaken

Yup They are one of the biggest in the US and only live in fast moving water. We did a two week study of them in college. It was very cool.
