Vista sucks
So since my desktop finally died when my house flooded last year I've been using an HP laptop with Windows Vista. It crashed a couple months ago and I went through a bunch of shit getting it back online. So since then it has decided it doesn't have an optical drive. Then itstarted randomly swithing it's USB between 1.1 and 2.0. Then it completely crapper out. I think it's a BIOS issue but I'm at the limit of what I can do. I have a guy looking at it, but that sucks too, since my only Internet access is my iPhone. Goddamn laptops, I will never buy another HP product again, and I'm not going anywhere with Vista if I can help it.

This is why buying used/refurbished can be a plus... I was able to get an IBM at a reason price with XP.

Dell refurbished for me. 5 computers (3 desktops, 2 laptops)in 10 years and never had a problem with any of them. Vista is crap, either XP or 7 is the way to go, 7 really is better than anything else and should be the only thing to look at until the google OS comes out

Windows 7 is the norm now so you don't have to worry about Vista anymore. |

I had a refurbed gateway m500 survive iraq twice and all kinds of other abuse. Biggest issue I usually have with lappys is the hinges lock up and tear up the plastics
