houses- 1 or 2 story?
What is your preference and why?
I prefer 1 story because i don't want climb stairs. I'm been looking at houses for a while now and it seems like the 1 stories here, new from the ground up, are going for more money than the 2 stories, mainly because they take up more land and the builders are trying to squeeze in as many houses as possible. There are also less 1 stories being built. Now if I go the resale route, i can find the same sq ft for about the same $. But i am trying to figure out, at a resale standpoint what would be more attractive. Are there more people that just prefer split level houses, or single story? |

1 story, but with a basement.
Around here to be considered a 2 story both levels are above ground. why? I just like having a basement. Cool in the summer, and cheaper to heat in the winter than 2 above ground levels. |

Currently shopping, prefer 1 story. Especially with the newer houses most seem to be 2 story once you get past a certain sq. footage. Curious to see the responses here... |

Forgot to add. Double the square footage in the same footprint = bigger house without losing lot area.
I like a big yard too More room for me to build my shop later So I voted 2 story, even though 2 level would be more accurate. Edit: And as for stairs, it seems like even the single story homes are built up enough that there are still stairs to climb to get in... don't ask why. |

prefer a 1 story also, but you won't get the same sq ft, cuz most yards are 1 size and 1 stories take up more space.......so it's give an take.

I own a 2 story, but i guess it's more of a 1 1/2 story because it's a smaller portion of the floor plan. I don't really care, I lived in everything from a 2 story plus a basement to a single wide trailer growing up. Never bothered me to climb stairs.

I prefer 2 story houses. The house I grew up in was 2 story with basement and the one I live in now is 1 without a basement. Stairs don't bother me in the least, and I too felt more secure sleeping upstairs. I also liked that if it was too loud one one story I could escape to the other, such as the TV being wayyyyy up like right now. It was also very useful when having company. I don't care for people much, so I'd be able to chyll upstairs with no one bothering me. There's plenty of other reasons, but these were just at the top of my head.

I prefer 2-story.
1. I feel more secure at night sleeping upstairs, while all windows/doors downstairs are locked. 2. I like the separation of bedrooms up and living down. Kids can go to bed or do their own things upstairs, while adults are still up downstairs. |
