Those number are for striped down base models. The sticker on my car was over 6K more than what they have listed.

Edit.. Never mind I just saw the "Base Price" in parentheses.

What was its hp rating? 255 or something? I think the Iroc was at 275. Dark days they were...

Hell no....

225Hp....grab it in 5.0LX and 5spd and you had a sweet ride.

225hp and 300lb torque in a sub 3000lb car was a lot of fun.

I had a 83 Z28 HO with a 5 spd and T-tops. Yes it was fun. Not fast as what I have experienced since but entertaining...

Reminds me of all the praise heaped on old muscle cars.

Once you actually drive a stock one....not so great compared to whats available now but back when they hit the scene they were a blast compared to what was available.

Progress will do that.

In the 80s? I think the IROC was significantly less than that (by 50 or so horses). The Camaro didn't get to 275 until they put the LT-1 in it in 93.

The 88 had a couple of V8's available that year.
5.0 available in 170HP, 220HP (or 195 with auto) and the 5.7 with 230 (automatic only)

It weighed a couple hundred pounds more than the Mustang.

Well you can argue 'claimed hp', maufacturer claims, and dyno numbers all day but it matters not. Mine wasnt stock as I am certain most ended up modded and the butt dyno says

NOT FAST.

fun yes but not adrenaline rushing, eyeball bugging fast, at least not beside my 454 swbPU...

I drive a 83 Firebird daily. She's seen 200K and been rebuilt twice ground up and needs it again. The destroked small block with pink rods, flat tops, midrange cam and 4bbl are still fresh although it leaks at every seal. It has all the Performance sway bars, springs, and brakes from the old 83 Z28 I used to have but turned into a stock car 18 yrs ago...
