Default Tank bag or backpack?

Which do you prefer and why? I don't have a tankbag so by default and because I have plenty of them I use a backpack.

On the ninja I used a tank bag that was given to me by the chick I bought the Ninja from.

When I had my Honda the tank bag was forbidden after a tiny piece of metal stuck to the magnets then scratched my tank. So backpack on that one.

On a long ride if I had lots of stuff I would bungie cord the back pack to the rear seat so it wouldn't hurt my back.

I have both and use them for different purposes. If I have a lot of stuff to carry I use my backpack (although I'm not a huge fan). And if i just have a few things I use the tank bag. I'm paranoid about scratching the tank though.

Tank bag only.
Just check the bottom for rocks/sand before putting it on, and there should be no scratches.

Tank bag, especially if it is a longer trip. After riding 3 hours with a backpack on, you will understand.

tank bag, no question, it's much nicer than backpacks

if you are worried about scratches, get a strap bag

Now the best way of storage overall is a rear hard case. Make Fatburg proud!

Backpack or bungee or borrow space from my friend's panniers. I don't really have room for a tank bag on the dualie and before with the SV, I was pretty much splayed out across the tank so having a tankbag was kind of cumbersome.

Tank bag, if I need more room, I have a tail bag. I used to use a book bag, but I always bungeed it to the tail.

backpack.

only 'cause that's all i know, and trips to work are only about 30 or so miles round trip.

haven't been on any trips long enough to require any lugage.
