Default Il Mostro Liquido????

As a Monster owner and fan, I'm not sure whether to be intrigued or pissed about this. I just had a debate with a guy about this topic about a week ago. I sided that the Monster line is defined by the ultra torquey, air cooled, 2 valve engines. But Ducati doesn't seem to stand by any of its famed technology anymore... belt driven cams, dry clutches, air cooled motors. I mean the new Hyper at 821cc puts out more power than the old air cooled Hyper 1100 could have ever imagined. Sign of the times I guess...

The rumor mill is flying. MCN, Motorcycle.com, Moto.it, and Motorclisimo all reporting on the story.

"The Ducati Monster celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, but it looks like year 21 will be just as important, with the introduction of a new model powered by Ducati‘s liquid-cooled Testastretta 1198cc engine. - The engine is likely the 1198cc Testastretta 11° V-Twin engine used in the Diavel, so we should expect about 150hp, depending on how Ducati decides to tune the engine.

But where does this leave the Streetfighter? Well the Streetfighter’s days may be numbered. The 1098cc version isn’t even available in Ducati’s 2013 U.S. lineup despite America being Ducati’s biggest market by sales. According to Ducati’s 2012 sales figures, Monster sales outnumbered Streetfighter sales by nearly a 3.5 to 1 margin."

But multiple people from the peanut gallery have noted that doesn't look big enough to be the 1198 engine. Possibly the 821cc middleweight from the new Hyper then? Or both? If it is the 821 engine, why does this model have a clutch slave, while the current Hyper is mechanical. But can you imagine the 1198 in the Monster frame??? Can you say HOLY FACKING HELL OF A WHEELIE MONSTER????

Edit- Hey look, my posts are 3,333. Odd.

I'd ride it. But I liked the old Monster too.

What's the problem with it? I don't think they did it with the 1098/1198 engines, but Ducati has put higher output liquid cooled Superbike motors in Monsters before (S4, S4RS).

People will always bitch that it won't be good for the "purists." Fuck them. Evolve or die. I welcome it.

No, because they had the Streetfighter S with the 1098. While the S4 series was liquid cooled, most of the core monsters were 2v a/c.

Different take than I expected from you.

I have old skool. I also have new. If I'm feeling like overheating and phishing myself I will ride my m900. If not, my Multi.

I'm just so tired of hearing people bitch about new technology in smaller more efficient machines. Like something old? BUY something old.
