A few months back it was reported that social networking site traffic had actually surpassed e-mail traffic on the Internet.

I believe it. I just can't understand why. I have a hard enough time keeping up with email, let alone social networking pages. And instant messaging applications, forget it. Social networking sites and IM applications are blocked at work and since I'm on a PC all day long at work, I don't even want t look at my PC when I get home.

I think one reason they are bigger is that when all of your friends and associates are networked together, it's faster and easier to share information. For example, you post one statement or pic and everyone that you have configured to be allowed to see it get notified and can click on it if they like. It's also much more dynamic as e-mails are static, thread-based items. And it's all in one place - your home page give you status on everything you want to know.

*edit* forgot to mention you can easily access them with your smartphone, too.

You're old, my friend. Accept that and move on.

Word of warning: Watch for fake Facebook emails with an attachment. The attachment is viral. Been seeing them around campus recently.
