Default drug home a bike

well, we found a 78 KZ650 on craigslist. $200. it needs some work but well worth the price. I could part it out and clear at least $1500.

I went and looked at it and got it for a friend. he's going to buy the parts to get it running. figure he's going to have a good bike for well under $1K.

Tina took some pictures, I'm sure she'll post them tomorrow when she see's this.

I worked in a Kaw shop in 77'. The KZ650 was a nice ride. They never got much respect or notice because the 1000 over shadowed it, but I wanted one back then. I see a nice one come up for sale every once in a while and feel a distant tug. Pics please.

don't get me wrong, this one needs some work. it's not in bad shape for $200 though.

from what I have been told, when the 650 was out it was out running everyone elses 650's and 750's and including Kawi's 750's for the most part.

some pictures.

Mine is parked around the corner from this one. There are 5 bikes stuffed in there. I heard them talking last night.

New KZ: Hey! where am I?

Old KZ: You're in a garage where they take old bikes and make them new again.

New KZ: Why are there two in pieces?

Old KZ: The GS550 is for a guy at her work, will be gone in a week or so. The 1100 over there don't say much, he got torn down 3 years ago. The man bought a ZX-10 and the 1100 hates it.

New KZ: Do you think I'll look like you when they are done with me?

Old KZ: Hell no! Only one bike in this garage gets chain maille and spikes.

Being that I only hear them but can't speak to them, I hope the old one tells the new one how well he'll be taken care of!

Wow...so did you have to bring your own shovel to dig it out of the guy's back yard or what? I was just checking out the caked on dirt on the gages, etc.

No, think they had things piled on it in a shed. I keep finding parts I want to hijack off of it for my bike. Must control myself......................

I just did a compression check on it, 160 to 150 dry so it should be good to go.

so far we are looking at getting new carb boots (both sides), throttle cables, clutch cable, plugs, oil change, carb clean (possibly some parts?), front master cyl., starter solenoid.

will know more in a few days.

It has all the signs of a good bike hiding under the years of crud. Stock exhaust, air box and turn signals all say unmolested.
