For the sound of it, things got worse because they've taken down the leaders of the gangs. As a result the rank & file are leaderless, so taking pot shots at anything that moves and doesn't wear their colours.

I stay away from Caribana too. There are always several incidents.

On the original topic, more information is slowly coming out. For example:

- The woman whose townhouse the party occurred at claims that it was for children.

- The woman who hosted the party was 'known to police', as the saying goes.

- The party has apparently been an annual event, for at least the last several years.

- The party was being Twittered about as a 'Hennessy Party.' Yeah, the Hip-Hop poseur beverage of choice.

- Two cases of the stuff. That's two dozen bottles, at roughly $60.00 a bottle, and the drinks were free at the party.

All of this, in an assisted housing complex.

No range rovers, thats the ghetto fab vehicle of choice down here.

I think youre right about soem of the gang culture now too. Seems in NYC its more just local crews as opposed to bloods and cripps type stuff. But I think there is still strong influence from the bigger gangs esp within the latino and caribean groups. Where I work we have large latino and caribean populations as well as black americans (we also have a good amt of actual africans, mostly from nigeria, but they keep to themselves and arent realy known to be in gangs or anything) so a lot of the gangs are drawn along those lines.
