ALBANY, N.Y. — An Albany police officer is being credited with saving the life of a 70-year-old paraplegic man from a burning home.

Albany police officials say Officer Richard Chu responded to a report of a house fire around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. When he arrived, the home was engulfed in thick smoke and two women were standing on the front lawn.

One of the women told Chu that her disabled husband was still inside the house. Chu ran inside, found the man lying on the floor and carried him outside.

No one was injured.

Police say the fire started in the kitchen and was extinguished by Albany firefighters. The cause is considered accidental.

I've never had a good experience with a cop, not once. unless it was with a friend who happens to be a cop.

This past weekend I was riding with ADV folks, I come up to a national park cop with his lights on and he is hanging out the window waving, so I stop. The first words out of his mouth was yelling at me for the group ahead of us not stopping for him. This guy was straight out yelling at so that people that were a half mile ahead of me would stop, and the only thing I could do is flip up my helmet, shut the bike off and say that yes I did stop.

I'd put a cop as a job that they couldn't pay me enough to do. As an EMT people are a PITA even if they want me there. No matter what situation (outside of a flat tire on the hwy) a cop is in, there is going to be someone on scene who really doesn't want you there. Also, everyone a cop deals with is also an "undocumented" lawyer, especially on college campuses. My patience would run out about the time someone said "you can't" and then you'd hear the sound of a taser and then my badge being taken away.

Kudos to your friend. I hope his wife gave it to him porn star style for that save.

that's funny because EMT would be one of the jobs I would never do for the money they pay. Dealing with people who are sick/injured/stressed and quite possibly getting hurt/sick yourself.....uh uh not for me.

Things like this didn't present a problem for an officer. Officers had a tried and
