Default Friend and Foe

I know no one on here is like this....
but how come bikers are "friends" when they see each other on opposite sides of the road and when they are on the same side they feel the need to race each other?

I have seen guys turn around and catch back up with you to see how fast you are riding through the twisties, I'll wave them by just so know I'm not looking for a duel....

But where I typically ride it's not straightaways, a skilled rider on a 250 or 500 can rule if the rider on the liter is not all that skilled.
