Default Humanity redeemed..

Last weekend I was shopping and lost my wallet in the parking lot. I noticed before I got home but after I left the lot so I headed back and went hunting all over in the cold and snow for it. I asked in the store and the mall but no luck. I got home and lo and behold there was a note on my door saying that someone had found my wallet and left it with my neighbour (who is good people). So my wallet had been returned to my house before I even had. I called the number and they left and thanked her profusely.

Made my day...(week, year)

This fall I was riding home on my bike. A car pulled left infront of me and as he did something black flew right past my elbow. I pulled into a driveway and ran out. Sure enough it was a wallet. Some high school kid's. I had to run home first but I went back to the address a bit later. At that point it was raining. The dad came to the door soaking wet. They had apparently been searching the whole neighborhood in the dark and rain. They had never thought that it would have stayed on the roof as long as it actually did. He offered me all the money in the wallet ($21 ) but I turned it down. I saw the kid's facebook status later, it made me feel good inside.

Most people I know say they would return a wallet, although I had one person say that they might keep the money ( that did not impress me) Still you worry that those who won't are the ones who will find it. I was making a mental list of who all I was going to have to call to cancell cards..

I look forward to "paying it forward"

Nice.. had a friend I posted about not long ago leave his wallet somewhere only to have some fuckbag spend 4 or so thousand dollars on his debit card at electronics stores. Then to top it off, he'd had another fairly recent fraud claim and his bank refused to cover it. It's nice when people actually help others sometimes.

I once had a lost wallet returned, only to have the cards used and checks taken out of the middle of the book... by returning it they made me feel like I could trust them.

:/

I used to travel a lot and one thing I did a long time and still keep current is I have a folder in my office at home with a photo copy of the front and back of every card in my wallet, it makes calling to cancel if necessary very easy - and you know exactly what was in there.

I think there are a lot of good people that do good things every day but no one cares to talk about it, we focus on the bad because we can whine/bitch about it.
