Default HEEEEELLLLP! <forehead slap>

My mother is unbeliveable. She wants a bike.

She has lots of passenger experience (starting from before I was born) on a bike. So, that's not a problem.

She has been considering a sportbike. I tried and tried to steer her toward beginner-friendly bikes. What does she want? A Hayabusa.

Why? I don't know. I had her going toward something easier to ride, like a smaller cruiser, or the Ninja 250. Last night, she emails me, and again, has to have a Hayabusa. Here's what I said to her:

Quote:
I forbid you to get a Hayabusa. They are about as far away from a beginner bike as you can get. Bad, very bad idea. You do not need a 200HP bike to have fun.

A 50HP bike can out-accelerate any car on the road and go faster than 100 mph. My first bike had 68HP and would do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, was powerful enough to pull the front wheel off the ground, and had a top speed of about 130MPH.

A 200HP bike is very unforgiving toward common mistakes that new riders make. Something as simple as a manhole cover, or a freshly painted crosswalk, and one twitch of the throttle will make you wreck.
Now, will she actually go through with it and get a Hayabusa anyway? I don't know. The way she is, she might never get any bike. But geez, I swear I'm talking to a brick wall.

Sometimes when people have their mind set on something you cant talk sense into them. Good luck with this and hoepfully she will see the light and not get that Busa.

Have her log into this place and we can all tell her it's not a good idea to get a Busa as a first bike. Or have her log onto ANY sportbike forum and have her search though the beginner section or better yet, have OTB talk some sense into her.

Just go over there when she gets it and pull one of the spark plug wires. Problem solved.

My dad was NEVER in to tatoos...I have a few...started when I was in the Marines.

What does he do ? Went out and got a tat at 70 years old !! It's not that big but I just couldn't believe he actually did it.

Yeah, I totally respect that, and I think it's cool that she wants to get into it. She's also the type of person that will like a sportbike. I just don't want her getting in over her head.

Totally understandable. My wife got her first bike at 41 and got an R6. Many said it was a big mistake but after a year and a half...all is good.

She's also ridden my R1...a TurboBusa and a Ducati 999.

It has a lot to do with maturity and having a level head as well. Your mom may ride a Busa but never really push it and be fine...which some will say is a waste but I say...to each their own and it's her choice and money.

No I wouldn't suggest it but again...to each their own.
