I love my job. I just wish it paid more.

I don't bitch much about mine, even when it gets hectic. I sometimes bitch when I have to work another shift, but it's usually about who I'm working with, not the job itself.

Tonight was one of those really off nights not to mention I was working a relief shift, which isn't my norm. Almost every call seemed to be a bitch call and nothing I did pleased anyone, even though I bent over backward for each individual, except for the two dispatchers that need a serious ass chewing. I never tell them who to do their jobs, but came close on these two tonight.

Whats frustrating is having crummy staff and then working fast track and having about 75% of people here for non emergent stuff. So far I have had about 4 out 15 peopel with truly emergent stuff. Those people I like seeing becasue they have a problem and I can usuaily fix it.

Isn't that a typical ER?

Wuss.

I can deal with all the "icky" stuff, I'm too soft hearted & get too close to situations than I should. Not to mention I beat myself up over shit constantly.

As long as I've been working at my job, I've encountered several break ins, helped PD catch the asshole thieves, but I've only experienced one actual fire. I knew I responded quick enough (less than 10 seconds from the time I received the signal), got the people out of the house, and had the fire truck there in less than 10 minutes, sitting there watching each smoke/fire detection device go off as the fire rolled through the house until it finally burned the phone wire was awful. I could visualize what was happening and felt distraught for that family. Then I beat myself up over all the "what ifs".

Besides, I don't think I could make it through med school. I'm horrible at math and alot of the sciences.

I worked night shift a couple years ago at walmart of all places. Not only was it a shitty job but the night work life helped to destroy my relationship, my social life, and my grades in college. When I was finally done with that job my gf of 3 years and I were finished, so ever since I have been nothing but focus on work and school.

Now that school is done and I have no job, I am bored a hell.

Why's that?

"Sir, they say you're here because your knee hurts?"

"What? No... my... fibromyalgia is acting up... I need meds"

*whacks his knee with nightstick*

"Are you -sure- it's not your knee?"
