He flies a Piper Seminole which is the one with two engines. I don't think they had that kind at the place I am looking. I know he used to fly a 172, and I think they have one of those....

Maybe I'll just have to tell him a little bit before so he can do his check flight.

Damn, Dave. I'm glad I started this thread. There are so many things I don't know about!

So I was going to do this for our anniversary and stay out in one of our favorite little towns for the night and come back.

Beleive me, I KNOW that flying is not cheap. I have the student loans from his schooling to prove it!
Renting is still cheaper than owning and maintaining though. It cost my dad fortune to keep his little 152 running and hangered. We finally just got rid of it and rent now.

He is still in school, so he flies regularly. He's working on his CFI right now. He hasn't been flying for a whole year yet, so I know he is current on any annuals.

Werd. One of his classmates said something about wanting to own his own plane and my hubby looked like this:

It will depend on the FBO. The one I was using had a 5 hour minimum if you wanted to take a plane for the weekend. Best to call and ask.

tie it to a decent club though and it becomes a great investment. I seriously considered picking up a pa-140 in lieu of my house for a bit. of course not living with my folks won out in the end

I'm sure I could call and just ask, but I'm too lazy right now.

Do they charge you for the flight hours and then like a service fee to have it overnight?
It depends on the owner/FBO. Where I used to fly...I personally knew the FBO owners and would let me keep the airplane over the weekend (unless it was really busy). They would just charge me for the flight time.

Just be sure to do the small aircraft checklist first.

1. Are you a celebrity?
2. Are you part of a band or in any way connected with the music industry?
3. Are you a political figure?

Oh.. and 4. Are you Mike Nellis? (hehe...sorry Mike )

If you answer 'no' to all of the above, you should be just fine.

kennedy was flying night IFR without any experience OR ratings over water in a single engine plane.

john denver was flying a rutan EZ he just bought. and neglected to get gas knowing that the fuel selector had been relocated behind his shoulder and could only be operated blindly by a screwdriver

aailiya bitched her pilot into overloading his plane with a shitload of luggage

all three of these people did immensely stupid things and (considering the risks they took) deserved what they got. at least denver had the good sense not to take anyone with him
