You have to pass through a weigh station before you even get to the dump site..

In the Austin area - we get a 70gal bin to put the weekly garbage in. And, a smaller bin for recycle. We just put in anything that can be recycled, though that usually ends up just full of beer bottles. No sorting, cutting, binding or other bullshit. Just put it in and they take it and sort for you. They figured, they have to sort it anyway.

Twice a year they have a drop off for hazardous or questionable materials. That includes mattresses, tires, paint, batteries, etc. etc. Some of it gets donated and re-purposed. Most of it is disposed of.

Question for those that just black-back and throw stuff away... what do you think will happen to that stuff, any thoughts for the planet at all?

The recycling back in Jersey was great. Cans, glass and plastic all went in the blue bin. Newspaper got bundled and cardboard was blue boxed. They had separate days for each type of pickup, and everything was smooth.

Down here the only way to recycle is to sort everything individually and drive 15 mins to the bee infested recycling centers and hope today isn't your day to be stung. My parents gave up shortly after moving here and I soon followed their lead. Everything is black bagged and tossed. I truly love to recycle, but I'm not willing to go through this shit to do it. If they offer the service we'll take them up on it, but they won't. No one wants to pay for it.

While I understand your frustration with their bullshit ways, at least you can recycle from the comfort of your house.

The OP is from Canada, might be a nationwide thing.

They have recycling here in Kosovo.
Same truck picks up both dumpsters... at the same time.

Yeah, I gave up on it.

our city doesn't even recycle. Pickup is free for city residents (paid for by our taxes) and occurs once a week. There are some recycling centers around here, but that would require me to seperate everything and drive over there on my own time. Too much hassle for me.

Yeah, but are they easy? When I lived in TN, chicks were easy as shit. Maybe NC is similar.

We got both picked up every Tuesday morning. All recyclables go in one can...cardboard, paper, glass, plastic, etc. And all trash in another. We pay $115 a year for the pickup.

Ours is the same but I can't remember what we pay. Oh and no corrugated cardboard in the recycle. Cans and bottles go back to the store to collect my 10 cent deposit on each. Basically anything carbonated gets a deposit but bottled water or tea does not, which may be in an identical bottle as a pepsi. Retarded laws in MI.
