No, it's a very limited OS, it doesn't require much ram to be speedy. We have almost a full featured computer OS, it needs a lot more to make it speedy.

Oddly, part of the reason specs still matter to the extent that they do is because we're at a point where we can still feel their limitations. Like, the reason it was painful that the first iPad only had 256MB of RAM is that Safari would constantly dump the content in your open tabs because it was always running out of memory. The number doesn't matter, except that it does have a very real consequence on the way people browse the web on the iPad. More powerful hardware allows more powerful software, with more features and better performance that translate into things that make people happier. When we get to a point hardware isn't a limit on software, then it'll cease to matter completely. That doesn't seem likely anytime soon: Software and features somehow always manage to keep up with the hardware.

You can say what about all the other iShit, but the iPad is priced well within it's market, look at the spec sheet. iPhone has pretty standard new phone pricing as well.

The train/bus/cab is the perfect place to use it. Sometimes there are things you just need to check. If you take the same route every day then it would give you something else to look at.

idk man, i still see no point to a tablet over a smart phone. id tend to consider anything of such questionable usefulness too expensive at any price

el droid has quite a few songs, books, and .pdf form magazines loaded onto it for the morning commute. most days though im playing snes on it. mappable keys and a real d-pad FTW

I have the Galaxy Tab and Just looked over the Xoom I have a little envy. Bu the Ipad continues to show me NOTHING. In Fairness my wife loves her IPAD

I just haven't understood the hype for the Ipads. Yeah yeah, I know Im a Mac girl, blah blah, and I have friends who have the iphone, the ipad, the macs, etc. I just dont get why anyone would want to carry around a larger version of a phone they already have. Smart phone FTW. We even have a kindle app these days.
