Ha, I have some more recent work I need to post, and I need to clean up my portfolio. But I'm moving in a couple weeks and I have enough to keep me busy with school and work, so I'm dragging my feet.

Edit to add: Ohhhh, the smug mug link is old... updated my website link.

But you have an established client list, and have created a demand for your work. I'm still trying to figure out what kind of photography I want to specialize in (started out wanting to do photojournalism.. now maybe editorial? advertising? Because I love shooting with natural light, but shooting in the studio can be loads of fun!!). Ah, I still have 2 years until I graduate, so I have some time to figure this out.

Try a little product shooting. See how you like that. It can be done on a tabletop, with a couple of full spectrum florescent lamps and a light box or it can be done in natural lighting, in a natural surrounding. It all depends on what you want to shoot. Jewellery can be particularly challenging, because of the reflections.

I had a deal with a small motorcycle parts company to shoot their billet aluminum products but the owner split from his girlfriend, who had recommended me, and the whole thing fell apart. Trying to meet the demands of someone else, when my thoughts on presentation were quite different, was an interesting experience while it lasted.

I've done some "product" shoots. One was a legit deal, although it wasn't a paid job (we worked on trade, since my client was a fellow student who needed the photos of her jewelry for her website.. so she set up the shell of my website for me). I've also shot products in advanced lighting (liquor bottles and the like). I enjoy the creative aspect of studio photography, and how one can really experiment with light while still maintaining control over the exposure. There's a local studio that has drip tanks and drop tanks, and they do workshops for us students from the art institutes.

But I like to shoot nature and landscapes too... and I like to do abstract, more graphical stuff.

I guess I just like to experiment with various aspects of the craft.. I've gotten into film photography (4x5, 120mm and 35mm, although I don't yet have the space for a dark room, so I have to send my stuff off for processing). I'm even participating in a cyanotype workshop later this month.
