Yeah in cali where I grew up that would have been considered huge. In the midwest though, it's normal to have 3000+ and not uncommon to have 5000+. Having those finished basements helps a lot.

I grew up in a one storey bungalow (with a finished basement) so I've always wanted a 2 storey.
