I may be mistaken but I beleive that in cases of some 401k's you have to roll them over to another when terminated from a company. otherwise it's automaticly payed out and terminated.

Lots of acct service companies like Fidelity will let you keep it in there, even after you quit. Or you can roll it over into an IRA. It does not have to be another 401k.
