I think a lot of it is due to trends..... I don't know about ya'll but when I was going thru school all I used were Mac's until high school... Mac's have really gotten a lot of support in home computers w/ the emergence of the iPod and then later the iPhone, it increased their market share and public visibility.

I wouldn't say people buy Mac's because they're too lazy to build their own. I build my own because I know what *I* want to put in it and it's cheaper than buying a prebundled higher-end package from say Dell or HP. I also personally enjoy it.

Sides, most people now-a-days just use their PC's to connect to the net and browse the web. If you find a graphics or video person, they will tend to have a Mac (they process the information faster, simply put). Gamers and more "power users" you'll find on PC's because they are just more well known, there's more software applications available in general.

So what would you say I am? a "PC Fan Boy" because I posted the Penny Arcade strip? Nah, I'd say I'm more of a realist, everything has it's own application.

Precisely.
I have a friend that is a photographer and he uses a mac. From anything I have read is if you want high end photo or video work you want a Mac over a pic. From there you go to $$$$$ rigs.

I have always heard that Macs have better color for photo editing as well.

A buddy of mine bought a Mac at least 5 years ago I think because he was getting tired of problems with his pc and he knew a guy that was telling him to get a mac. I'm pretty sure he ran in problems a year or so later. I can't remember right now.

My cousin has a Mac laptop and he uses it with his DJ rig. But for some reason I think he won it.

When I worked at Costco we got in one of those blue and clear I macs or what ever they were. I set up the system when they came in and I played around with it. I just couldn't get into it. Those systems had that single button mouse that drove me crazy.

When I went to get this laptop last year the price stopped me from even glancing at the Imac.

I'm not saying they are bad computers but they are not for everyone.

I didn't post that. But it's no different than every time someone posts about an iPod or iPhone, someone has to chime in saying Apple is the devil, and that they should have bought a non-Apple device.

I honestly think some people have a hidden inferiority complex about Apple. Either that, or maybe they're just the type of people who always look down on anything popular. It's like they always want to pat themselves on the back for not falling for the hype.

Anyway, this is off-topic so I'll stop.

When it comes to "color" there's a lot of things to take in to understand the context, Your best "color" will actually come from a CRT, not a LCD or what-not. But then you need to calibrate it, which is when you tend to use calibration programs like Spyder and what-not.

I agree w/ your statement, they're not for everyone, like a PC isn't for everyone.

I'm one of the people that are not a fan of Ipods. I don't tell people that they shouldn't buy one. I just done run to Ipod when I'm told about how great they are.

Its just like Honda. I get a kick out of how people think they are great no matter what because of the label on it.

Hondas are good cars but they are not perfect.

Ipods are good. I have tried some. I don't think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. I think the price is high on them. If they were priced better I would think about them. The only time I have ever wanted an I pod was a couple of months ago when i realized my stereo works with Ipods.

While we are talking about I pods. Will one with a bad battery still play when hooked up to another player? If the can I wouldn't mind having one with a shot battery so I could load it up, hook it to my stereo in the machine and then hide the I pod. Then I would just need to press a button and I would have a pile of music there. That set up might be easier for my step father to use as well. I just plug my Zen into the front of it and I'm good to go.

I also tried my sisters I phone. Its not bad but its not for me.

I don't see the I mac laptops are a pain in the ass for me. Once again the price is a problem. But I also haven't liked any of the operating systems on them so even if the price was equal I wouldn't want one.

#1 penny arcade rocks.

#2 for the op, does your work lappy have a little tit/switch to tell the computer that the screen is closed? if so a lot of times from the computer moving around in your bag those switches will fire the laptop back up. filing the nipple off should fix the problem completely

I don't see any nipples or buttons, so I don't know how it detects that the screen is closed. Maybe there's a sensor built into the hinges.

go into control pannel and power ooptions

you should be able to set the hibernate/sleep options to soomething else.

I for instance, sometimes have my laptop hooked up to my 24" monitor, so closing the lid and sending it tos leep/hibernate isn't an option. I actually have the hibernate button set to my power button (quick hit of the power button means hibernate, if i hold it down it'll turn off, for shutdown, i just use the start menu).

That should tell you if the issue is w/ a mechanical switch (ie, nipple/trigger on your screen closing) or something w/ your operating system (ie an update may have flawed the .dll's associated w/ the hibernate/shutdown process).

Give that test a try to see what you come up with.

And yes, penny arcade is the shit.

not sure if i'm reading your post right or not....

You need a power source to the ipod for it tow ork if it has a bum battery, the mini-plug (where your headphones plug into) isn't going to power an ipod if it's plugged into another device. I think that's where you were going w/ that

Nope. I have an excavator. In that excavator is a stereo just like a car. Only they call it heavy duty and charge more for it. It has IPod control in the deck so if you hook up on you can use the stereo controls to change tracks and so on. It will also do this for Sat radio. It has a aux in port as well which I plug my mp3 player into. But when I do that I have to use the mp3 player controls. Thats fine for me but my stepfather wouldn't use.

What I'm wondering is if I use an ipod cable to connect to the stereo will this provide power to the Ipod as well. I think it should. I'm just wondering if Ipod with a bad battery could still be loaded while hooked to a computer then used once its hooked to something with its own power?

I'll buy anything shiny and made by apple.

I'm waiting for IBM to come back.

I know little about computers. I just listen to my fellow nerd friends. Most said for someone like me who uses the computer for IM, forums, porn, research, and porn that an HP is okay but recommended to me to spend the extra cash on a Toshiba. That's what I got and I couldn't be happier. They also said that if I was into gaming it would be the suck.

They also said they'd like to see how well a Toshiba would stand up to me. I'm extremely abusive with electronics. I couldn't tell you how many times my Gateway fell to the floor, plus I've destroyed 4 Mp3 players in the 1 year I owned one. Sadly the only thing to go wrong with the Gateway besides me finding some super crazy virus (That I got fixed after weeks of PITA procedures) was the lalptop jack went to hell. It lasted right at 2years for me.

In the two months I have owned this Toshiba it has hit the floor roughly 3-4 times.
