sorry, but the unions served their purpose and now they're choking the life out of the industry.... paying someone $75/hour to put bolts on all day is kinda dumb...

Again, the $75.00/hr is a bullshit talking point that places the cost of RETIRED workers and their benefits squarely on the shoulders of the current work force.

It's not that they are paid $75 an hour.
I think that number is based on total benefits divided by workforce or something.

In other words, the actual take pay is $20 an hour, toss in all the benefits (pension, health insurance, misc crap) and total compensation per employee is say $55 then they toss on some legacy labor cost and blamo you end up with $75 an hour being quoted.

dunno my old neighbor who was w/ Ford UAW pulling parts in a warehouse made $28/hr. of course O/T and double time and stuff. he made about $70-80k pulling parts.......before benny's.

is it $75/hr? NO, but it sure wasn't a $28/hr job either.

Poor management is the reason these companies are where they are. Not unions. Too many models, too small of market shares.

They arent paying anyone, anything near 75$/hr... wish you people could understand this. 75$/hour per employee, is them including pensioned members, benefits, etc, squarely on the backs of the employees.

Yep, I knew someone who was working at Delphi a few yrs ago, making 27-28/hr in parts distribution, and the only prior experience he had was a couple years at a dealership where he made less than half that.

The loaded cost to the employer is $75! 75 freakin dollars per hour! If the average employee makes $25 per hour, the loaded cost is 3x that, which is way, way, way, way, way, way, way above industry average. The reason that the loaded cost is 3x the hourly wage is because of the GODDAMN UAW! Even though an employee isn't making $75 per hour, it still costs the employer $75 per hour.

The cost to build a car (or anything for that matter) is divided up between labor, materials, and overhead. If labor costs are 2x what they should be, then where is the difference made up? Materials, since a fixed overhead is required to build an average car. So, Ford, GM, and Chrysler settle for substandard materials to offset their outrageous labor costs, and thus their cars are steaming POS's. Thank you, UAW!
