Don't do it.

My first helmet was a large flake glitter bell 3/4 with a yellow snap front shield... that was 1970-something. Some things are best left as vintage on a shelf.

I think your idea of blacking that entire bike out is awesome. Though, I think those holes should be a bit smaller if you're going to leave it as raw metal underneath.

Since it's your wife's bike - what does she think?

IMO customizing your wife's bike is a no-win scenario. Make her do it, that way she has no one to blame but herself.
