I think it was an effort to balance the signal to noise ratio a bit... Afterall, how many postwhore threads do we need? Especially considering that 3/4 of the threads started these days have little substance and the ones that do start off with substance degrade into retarded bullshit pretty quickly. At least the latter start off well...
