Default OSX 10.4 to 10.6 question

Likely upgrading to 10.6 soon. Can I keep my files/programs/settings in the process?

Just follow normal install procedures? This will be the first time I've made any changes to a mac... don't wanna lose anything. Thanks for the help.

Exactly. Should be seamless. I upgraded a few months ago.

That's what I'm concerned about.. for you that was a pretty inexpensive/simple upgrade, I have to do a complete install which is like 160$ or so. I feel like I'll probably keep my stuff, but in Windows when you skip an OS as I am, you tend to lose some data.

Back it up, just in case. You shouldn't lose anything, but that doesn't mean you won't.

Also, it's a safe bet that some of your software won't be compatible with Snow Leopard. Doesn't seem to happen as much with OS X as it did with earlier stuff, but it happens from time to time.
